What Is Orthopedic Surgery?
Orthopedic surgery is a specialized branch of medicine focused on correcting joint and musculoskeletal issues through surgical intervention. When nonsurgical treatments such as physical therapy, injections, or medication no longer provide relief, surgery may be the best option for restoring mobility and relieving pain.
Our board-certified orthopedic specialists use both traditional and minimally invasive techniques, tailoring each procedure to the patient’s unique anatomy, diagnosis, and goals. We offer operative and non-operative treatment of shoulder, knee, elbow, wrist, and ankle pain in outpatient settings, including total shoulder replacement, total or partial knee replacement, advanced arthroscopic shoulder surgery (rotator cuff repair, instability, and labral repair, advanced arthroscopic knee surgery (meniscal repair and ACL reconstruction, including “no incision” or all inside reconstruction), and arthroscopic ankle, elbow, and wrist surgery.
Common conditions we treat with orthopedic surgery include:
- Severe osteoarthritis or joint degeneration
- Tendon or ligament tears (e.g., ACL, rotator cuff)
- Cartilage damage
- Broken bones or fractures
- Muscle or tendon injuries
- Joint instability
- Repetitive use injuries
- Joint deformities or alignment problems
Our Surgical Treatments
Arthroscopic Joint Surgery
A minimally invasive procedure that uses a small camera (arthroscope) and tiny surgical tools to diagnose and treat joint problems such as cartilage tears, loose bone fragments, or ligament injuries. These surgeries are commonly used for shoulder, knee, and hip injuries.
Less tissue disruption, smaller scars, faster recovery than open surgery.
Most patients return to normal activity within 4–6 weeks, depending on the joint treated.
Joint Replacement Surgery
Replacement of damaged joint surfaces with durable prosthetic implants. We offer partial and total replacements depending on the extent of damage. These surgeries are commonly used to treat severe osteoarthritis or joint degeneration in the knee, hip, or shoulder.
Significant pain reduction, restored mobility, and improved joint function.
Initial recovery may take 6–12 weeks; full recovery continues with physical therapy for several months.
Ligament & Tendon Repair
Repair or reconstruction of torn ligaments or tendons, such as the ACL in the knee or rotator cuff in the shoulder. These surgeries are commonly used for sports injuries, falls, or repetitive strain injuries.
Restores strength, function, and stability to the joint.
Most patients require 3–6 months of physical therapy following surgery.
Bone Fracture Care and Surgery
Bone fracture care involves the realignment (reduction), stabilization, and healing of broken bones. When fractures are complex or unstable, surgery may be needed to realign the bone and secure it with hardware such as plates, screws, or rods. It’s commonly used to treat broken bones in the arms, legs, hips, ankles, or shoulders.
Proper alignment promotes optimal healing, reduces the risk of long-term complications, and restores function and strength.
Depends on the type and location of the fracture. Most patients return to normal activities within 6–12 weeks, with physical therapy recommended post-recovery.
Athletic Injuries
Orthopedic care for athletes includes the surgical treatment of ligament tears, tendon ruptures, cartilage injuries, and fractures sustained during sports or physical activity. It’s commonly used to treat ACL tears, meniscus injuries, rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocations, and stress fractures.
Restores performance and stability, shortens downtime, and prevents long-term joint damage.
Varies by procedure and sport. Return-to-play timelines are carefully managed with integrated rehab and follow-up.
